During the week ending January 29, Chinese domestic semi-finished steel prices have either edged up slightly or moved sideways, while transaction activity in the market has been at low-to-medium levels. Average prices of steel billet and slab in the local Chinese market are presented in the following table.
During the given week, demand for semi-finished steel in China has been slacker due to the approaching Chinese New Year holiday (February 2-10). Inventories of semi-finished steel have risen slightly, though they are still at relatively low levels compared to the same period in previous years and this has resulted in minor price rises in some regions of the country. It is expected that semi-finished steel prices in the Chinese domestic market will move on a stable trend in the coming period.
