In a letter to customers sent Monday, Gerdau Long Steel North America announced a $30/nt ($1.50 cwt. or $33/mt) transaction price increase for rebar and merchant bar, effective with all new orders as of January 14, 2014—although orders confirmed by end-of-business on January 13 will be price protected if shipped before February 1.
As of press time, Nucor or other US domestic mills have not responded with their own price announcements.
