During the week ending June 23, domestic semi-finished steel prices in China have generally indicated a downtrend, though billets prices in Fujian have moved sideways, while transaction activity in the overall market has been slack. Average prices of steel billet and slab in the local Chinese market are presented in the following table.
The offseason for the finished steel markets has negatively affected semi-finished steel prices. During the past week, prices of iron ore and finished steel have declined by larger margins, resulting in bigger decreases in semi-finished steel prices compared to the previous week. Demand for semi-finished steel continues to be sluggish, weakening the support for prices. It is expected that semi-finished steel prices in the Chinese domestic market will continue their downward movement in the coming week.
