Sources close to SteelOrbis have confirmed that spot market prices for US import HDG and Galvalume have climbed, once again.

“The fact that this market continues to have steam behind it is pretty incredible,” a souce said, adding that continued upward momentum with US HDG prices is spurring interest in some buyers.

In terms of current import volumes, for the month of May, data from the US Department of Commerce indicate that 231,386 mt of hot dipped galvanized sheet and strip import permits were recorded; if that number is mostly consistent with finalized census data, May 2021 would be the largest volume import month for hot dipped galvanized sheet and strip since January 2020, when the US imported 224,123 mt.
