Trader sources have confirmed that while overall interest in booking US import HDG coil from offshore sources remains light if the same grade can be purchased in the domestic market, buyers who are looking to book light-gauge tons continue to be active in the marketplace.
“The rule of thumb seems to be that if you can get it domestically, you buy domestically because the Section 232 tariffs have all but removed any cost advantage that came with booking offshore,” a source said. “But if the domestic mills aren’t making a customer needs, they have no choice but to look elsewhere.”
