The most commonly heard spot market prices for US domestic HDG coil continue to hover within last week’s range, sources have confirmed.
Whether the current price range will have long-term sticking power has yet to be determined. For example, sources close to SteelOrbis have expressed additional concern that the expected soft-sideways scrap pricing trend in February could place downward pressure on the market. Others note that service centers, which “bought heavy” when flats mills started to announce a series of five rapid-fire price increases, are well-stocked on material and don’t need to buy.
