US HDG market prices still fluctuating within last week’s range

The most commonly heard spot market prices for US domestic HDG coil continue to hover within last week’s range, sources have confirmed.

Whether the current price range will have long-term sticking power has yet to be determined. For example, sources close to SteelOrbis have expressed additional concern that the expected soft-sideways scrap pricing trend in February could place downward pressure on the market.  Others note that service centers, which “bought heavy” when flats mills started to announce a series of five rapid-fire price increases, are well-stocked on material and don’t need to buy.
