The most commonly reported spot market price transaction range for US domestic hot dipped galvanized (HDG) and Galvalume coil is unchanged since our last report a week ago, with US base-price still trending in the approximate range of $38.50-$40.50 cwt. ($849-$893/mt or $770-$810/nt), ex-Midwest mill. This week’s steadiness comes on the heels of a $2.00 cwt. ($44/mt or $40/nt) dip on the low end of the average transaction range that took place one week prior.
Some US-buyers say they fully believe that there are “quiet transactions taking place slightly below this range based on some of the things that are happening in the other flats segments.”
It’s still believed that US domestic flat rolled steel mills may soon announce price increases, although market players do not feel that current market conditions will allow for spot market price firming.
