US HDG market holds lateral week-over-week

The current average spot market for US domestic HDG coil continues to remain stable, but as with last week, some sources close to SteelOrbis say that deals up to $2.00 cwt. ($44/mt or $40/nt) below the average spot market price are available to volume buyers.

“They have some room to negotiate, when you look at the margins,” a source said. “For the bulk of the year the domestic mills have been focusing on price but today, it’s all about their cut of the marketplace. They want the biggest cut of the market. They’re also increasing production capacity and they want to make sure they have the orders to support that.”
