The traders’ spot flat steel offers have remained stable over the week in Turkey, but buyers consider $20-30/mt discounts possible due to the still unclear outlook and the declines seen in the mills’ offers. Customers have been postponing the deals, believing the prices would decrease further, but also due to unstable economic situation and fluctuating lira in particular.
"Turkish flat steel producers have sold out their productions until September-October so fast but now, almost more than a month they could not sell sufficient amounts not only to local buyers, also export demand has declined. We expect to see more advantageous price levels for restocking. We also have to give discounts because of the pressure from the buyers, and we have to arrange our purchasing costs very carefully in these uncertain conditions," a trader told SteelOrbis.
Prices have been stable for HR pickled materials, CRC and HRC materials over the week.
