Turkish flats spot market shows softer tone despite broadly stable workable prices

The Turkish flat steel spot market has shown a softer tone this week, although workable prices have remained broadly stable amid a mixed pricing picture. With both domestic HRC and scrap prices moving downward, sentiment in the spot segment has weakened, while demand remains very limited and buyers continue to purchase only for immediate needs. Market sources say difficult access to credit is also increasing cash flow pressure on some traders, especially smaller and medium-sized suppliers, pushing them to generate liquidity from existing stocks rather than hold firm on their initial offers. Larger suppliers, on the other hand, are still trying to resist the weaker market tone by keeping their offers relatively high, though these levels are mostly failing to attract real buying interest under current demand conditions.

“Spot prices have started to loosen more clearly because there is almost no demand. Since access to credit is difficult, some traders are trying to generate cash from their stocks, and this is putting pressure on the market. If you check more deeply, you can find more aggressive levels on the lower side,” a market source told SteelOrbis.

In the hot rolled sheet segment, spot prices are generally heard at around $630-650/mt ex-warehouse. However, levels close to $620-625/mt ex-warehouse may be achievable from some small and medium-sized traders, particularly for serious buyers and prompt sales. Meanwhile, offers from larger suppliers are still heard at around $660-665/mt ex-warehouse, though such levels are mostly considered unworkable under current demand conditions.

In the cold rolled sheet segment, spot prices are mainly heard at around $720-750/mt ex-warehouse. However, market participants say levels around $700/mt ex-warehouse may also be possible in the spot market, depending on tonnage, payment terms and the seller’s willingness to secure sales.

On the mill side, local HRC offers are currently heard at around $605-615/mt ex-works, while local CRC offers are standing at around $700-720/mt ex-works.
