Turkish flat steel spot prices continue to increase but demand still weak

Although Turkish retail traders are attempting to push up prices this week, the market is being restrained by continuously weak demand and unstable economic circumstances.

"Demand is still poor, but we will attempt to keep the same pricing in the coming weeks because the expenses of everything have grown significantly, so there will not be significant price cuts to minimize the damage." a trader indicated to SteelOrbis.

While many retailers stated that the economic conditions had a significant impact on their financial status and that they would attempt to keep the same levels in the upcoming weeks, other sellers agreed with everyone and nonetheless decided to offer discounts in order to avoid losing serious purchasers.

Workable domestic prices for hot rolled sheets are at $730-770/mt ex-warehouse, up $10/mt over the past week. In the meantime, domestic cold rolled sheet prices rose by $10/mt to $810-850/mt ex-warehouse. The bigger sellers, however, are aiming to sell at up to $910/mt ex-warehouse, which is not workable under the current market conditions.
