Reference price for Brazilian slabs exports remains in narrow range

The Brazilian producers are negotiating slabs exports at $535/mt against $530/mt last week, FOB conditions for the basic commercial grades.

Such price remains in a range of $530/mt to 540/mt since August 5.

In December, Brazil exported 454,000 mt of slabs, in average at $564/mt against 229,300 mt at $611/mt in November, FOB conditions, extras included.

In January 2025, the Brazilian slabs exports are expected to increase in volume from December, while imports are not expected to reach significant volumes.

In 2024, Brazil exported 5.52 million mt and imported 950,500 mt of slabs against 6.97 million mt and 563,900 mt in 2023.

The main destinations of the exports in 2024 were the US (4.29 million mt), Canada (393,500 mt), and Mexico (291,800 mt) while the main origins of the imports were Russia (664,900 mt), Vietnam (140,300 mt), and Japan (144,500 mt).
