A source from a major steel producer told SteelOrbis that slabs of the basic commercial grades are now negotiated for export having $290/mt, FOB, as base price.

The price compares to $300/mt FOB earlier this month, under the same conditions, reflecting a market in a downward trend since a peak of $530/mt FOB achieved one year ago.

In June, Brazil exported 554,800 mt of slabs, with ThyssenKrupp CSA exporting at $350/mt, ArcelorMittal Tubarao at $309/mt, Gerdau Acominas at $326/mt and Usiminas at $298/mt, for deals probably closed during April, all FOB conditions.
