Steel plate prices have decreased significantly in Turkey over the past two weeks, following the downturn in the hot rolled coil (HRC) segment, high stocks and still insufficient demand.

According to sources, domestic producer Erdemir has dropped its local prices for plate by around $70/mt over the mentioned period to $1,000-1,020/mt ex-works for S235JR quality. Moreover, some buyers state that $980/mt ex-works is also possible to get with a firm bid.

In the import segment, Bulgaria’s Stomana Industries S.A. has dropped its base prices by $70-90/mt since mid-September to $1,130/mt CFR for November shipments. Offers from Romania are at $1,075-1,085/mt CFR base for October deliveries, down by $95/mt over the same period. South Korea is said to be in the market with around $1,100/mt CFR, and certain discounts are said to be applicable. Macedonia’s Makstil is said to be in the market with $1,130/mt CFR.
