According to a market source in Brazil, exports of slab to the US are currently negotiated at $540/mt, FOB conditions for the basic commercial grades, the same reference price of last week.
The source mentioned that slab producers remain focused on sales to the US, with few sales efforts directed to other destinations, in a move reflecting the higher prices to the US.
In April, Brazil exported 538,700 mt of slab, in average at $495/mt, FOB conditions, with different quality grades and price deals probably closed in February.
The US was the main destination (509,800 mt at $496/mt), followed by Mexico (27,700 mt at $490/mt) and the Czech Republic (1,200 mt at $445/mt). The exporters were Ternium (343,000 mt at $484/mt), Pecem (172,700 mt at $519/mt) and ArcelorMittal (23,000 mt).
