After a short period of stability with prices ranging between $490/mt and $500/mt, FOB conditions, export slab prices in Brazil are now being negotiated in a price range of $500/mt to $510/mt FOB, for the basic commercial grades, a local exporter told SteelOrbis.

According to the source, fresh deals are being closed on the upper side of the range, raising expectations for additional increases in the short term.

In December, ArcelorMittal Tubarao exported slab at $492/mt, Companhia Siderurgica do Pecem at $493/mt and Ternium Brazil at $503/mt, all FOB conditions, with price deals probably closed in October.
