Brazilian slab exporters are negotiating deals in average of $470/mt, a price now unchanged over the last six weeks, FOB conditions for basic commercial grades.
The volume of Brazilian slabs exports to the US remains roughly unchanged after the imposition of the 50 percent import tariff, reflecting the unchanged demand from the local steel producers, which depend on imported slabs to feed their rolling operations.
During the first four weeks of August, Brazil exported an estimated 400,000 mt of slabs, at an average FOB price of $540/mt, including quality extras. One 50,000 mt import was spotted during the period, at $460/mt, under the same conditions.
