Brazilian slab exporters remain negotiating deals in average of $470/mt, unchanged over the last four weeks, FOB conditions for basic commercial grades.
Comparing prices before and after the imposition of 50 percent import tariff by the US, the average export price of the Brazilian slabs declined in average by $65/mt.
In August, the Brazilian slabs exports are expected to decline from the 670,500 mt exported in July, while imports of the product should increase from the 30,700 mt imported in July.
During the first three weeks of August, Brazil exported an estimated 250,000 mt of slabs, at an average FOB price of $561/mt, including quality extras.
Sources indicate that Brazilian slab exporters are currently engaged in negotiations with U.S. authorities regarding a potential reduction in the import tariff or the introduction of quotas allowing imports at a lower tax rate.
