Slab of the basic commercial grades remain traded in a range of $340/mt to $350/mt, FOB conditions, the same range over three weeks, a local exporter told SteelOrbis.
The source mentioned that despite the stability, expectations are for higher prices in the short term, as prices have already exceeded $350/mt FOB in other world regions.
A second source had mentioned that the country’s exports of slab in October could increase by an estimated 20 percent from the 472,000 mt exported in September, based on conversations he had with other slab exporters during the Alacero conference in Rio de Janeiro two weeks ago.
In September, ArcelorMittal Tubarao exported slab at $362/mt, ThyssenKrupp CSA at $360/mt, Companhia Siderurgica do Pecem (CSP) at $318/mt and Gerdau Acominas at $431/mt, all FOB conditions, with price deals probably closed in July.
