Following an upward price trend over the last few weeks, Brazilian slab export offers have leveled week-on-week. Offers are now negotiated in a range of $855/mt to $858/mt to the US East coast, while to the US West coast the range remains at $860/mt to $865/mt, both quotations stable from last week.

Such quotations are CFR conditions for the basic commercial grades. Shipments from such negotiations are scheduled for March and April 2021.

Sources tell SteelOrbis that Brazilian slab producers are continuing to focus on sales to the US, due to the tariff exemptions from Section 232. However, producers are also negotiating smaller volumes with clients in Canada and within the Brazilian domestic market.

Preliminary indications are pointing to an increased volume of slab being exported from Brazil in January, when compared to 409,200 mt exported in December.
