Brazilian slab average export price slightly reduced from last week

Brazilian slab exporters are negotiating deals at $472/mt in average, against $475/mt last week, FOB conditions for basic commercial grades.

Sources indicate that the difference is unrelated to the recently imposed 50 percent US import tariff on all Brazilian products, as steel and aluminum already face this rate. Industry players currently expect the tariff to remain at 50 percent for steel, though there is still some uncertainty.

In June, Brazil exported 751,000 mt of slabs, but no imports of the product were registered, compared respectively to 577,900 mt and 70,500 mt in May.

For July, slabs exports from Brazil should remain in line with the volume of June.
