A source linked to a Brazilian exporter told SteelOrbis that $440/mt, FOB conditions, is the new reference price when dealing with the export of slabs of the basic commercial grades.

The price compares with a range of $415/mt to $425/mt last week, and points to an uptrend linked to increased production costs, due to upticks in price for iron ore and coal/coke, and also due to an increasing international demand for steel products.

In July, ArcelorMittalTubarao exported its slabs $429/mt, Companhia Siderurgica do Pecem at $413/mt and ThyssenKrupp CSA at $393/mt, FOB conditions, with price deals probably closed in May.
