In January, China's finished steel exports totaled 1.8786 million mt, down 2.252 million mt or 54.52 percent year on year, totaling a value of $2.335 billion, down $1.151 billion or 33.03 percent compared with the same month last year.
Meanwhile, China's finished steel imports in January totaled 861,200 mt, down 558,800 mt or 39.35 percent year on year, totaling $1.261 billion in value, down $498 million or 28.31 percent compared with the same month last year.
In January, the country's net exports of finished steel amounted to 1.0174 million mt, totaling a value of $1.074 billion. The average export price was $1,242.92/mt, up $398.9/mt or 47.26 percent year on year. The average import price was $1,464.27/mt, up $225.45/mt or 18.26 percent year on year. The export price was $221.35/mt or 17.81 percent lower than the import price.
The breakdown of China's steel imports and exports in January is as follows:
Rebar exports in January stood at 36,200 mt, down 106,300 mt or 74.58 percent year on year, totaling $23 million in value, down $62 million or 73.13 percent compared with the same month last year. The average export price was $631.47/mt.
Rebar imports in January stood at 1,600 mt, down 600 mt or 27.16 percent year on year, totaling $2 million in value, up $1 million or 51.87 percent compared with the same month last year. The average import price was $1,006.49/mt.
China's wire rod exports in January totaled 38,000 mt, down 279,100 mt or 88.01 percent year on year, totaling $21 million in value, down $169 million or 88.84 percent compared with the same period last year. The average export price was $557.74/mt.
Wire rod imports in January amounted to 30,100 mt, down 14,000 mt or 31.67 percent year on year, totaling a value of $32 million, down $15 million or 32.19 percent compared with the same period last year. The average import price was $1,054.82/mt.
China's medium plate exports in January came to 302,300 mt, down 437,300 mt or 59.13 percent year on year, totaling $322 million in value, down $245 million or 43.18 percent compared with the same month last year. The average export price was $1,066.27/mt.
Medium plate imports in January stood at 79,300 mt, down 5,400 mt or 6.33 percent year on year, totaling $161 million, up $43 million or 36.55 percent compared with the same month last year. The average import price was $2,029.95/mt.
China's HR coil export volume in January stood at 219,300 mt, down 442,700 mt or 66.88 percent year on year, totaling a value of $164 million, down $292 million or 64.07 percent compared with the same period last year. The average export price was $747.78/mt.
HR coil imports in January came to 186,000 mt, up 16,100 mt or 9.49 percent year on year, totaling a value of $131 million, down $36 million or 21.68 percent compared with the same month last year. The average HR coil import price was $704.21/mt.
China's CR coil export volume in January reached 46,700 mt, down 99,000 mt or 67.94 percent year on year, totaling $43 million, down $143 million or 76.89 percent compared with the same period last year. The average CR coil export price was $921.02/mt.
CR coil imports in January stood at 185,200 mt, down 217,300 mt or 53.99 percent year on year, totaling $158 million in value, down $192 million or 54.77 percent compared with the same period last year. The average import price was $854.30/mt.
