South Korean steel exports indicate rise

The Korea Iron and Steel Association said that South Korean steel exports reached 7.5 million tons in the first six months of the year with an increase of 11.5% compared to the same period of last year. This situation reflects that upward trend will continue throughout the year. Exports of cold rolled steel sheet increased by 23.1% year-on-year in the mentioned period while steel section exports recorded a 19.5% rise. Exports to Japan amounted to 1.18 million tons with an increase of 26.3%. South Korean exports to Middle East, the US and Canada rose by 20.8%, 15.2% and 12.1% respectively. South Korea imported 8.96 million tons of steel in the first half, up by 14.8% from a year earlier.
