Ukrainian steelmaker Zaporizhstal has announced that, as part of its ecological modernization strategy, it invested UAH 1.8 billion ($66.5 million) in the development and renewal of its production in 2016. The modernization projects include the modernization of the company’s gas-purifying system of sintering machines No. 3 and No. 6, and the reconstruction of the blast furnace No. 3 at a cost of UAH 1.5 billion ($55.4 million).

The company’s CEO Rostislav Shurma stated that the investment climate is still unfavorable in Ukraine, but even in these circumstances Zaporizhstal has been systematically modernizing its production in order to reduce the burden on the environment. According to Mr. Shurma, Zaporizhstal has invested UAH 5.7 billion in modernization projects since 2012.
