World pig iron output up 0.44 percent in January-November

In November this year, world pig iron production amounted to 92.8 million mt, falling by 6.6 percent compared to October and down by 2.5 percent compared to the same month of 2016, according to the preliminary data covering 38 countries accounting for approximately 99 percent of total world blast furnace pig iron production, as announced by the World Steel Association (worldsteel).

Meanwhile, in the January-November period of this year, world pig iron production totaled 1.08 billion mt, up by 0.44 percent compared to the same period last year.

In November, pig iron output in Asia amounted to 71.9 million mt, down 2.44 percent compared with November 2016, with 54.88 million mt produced by China, down 3.5 percent year on year, 6.42 million mt produced by Japan, rising 0.6 percent, and 5.56 million mt produced by India, decreasing by 12.9 percent - with all comparisons on year-on-year basis. Meanwhile, in the same month, EU countries produced 7.53 million mt of pig iron, up 4.55 percent year on year, while the CIS produced 6.17 million mt, down 15.8 percent on year-on-year basis.
