Chinese steel producer Wuhan Iron and Steel (Group) Corp. (WISCO) has stated that 30CrMo hot rolled medium-high carbon alloy tool steel strips produced at its cast steel plate (CSP) plant in Wuhan have met national quality standards. The thickness of the hot rolled medium-high carbon alloy tool steel strip with width of 1,100 mm is only 14 mm, the thinnest specification in the world for this kind of product. The product in question is widely used in the manufacture of tools for special purposes, such as measuring tools, cutting tools, high impact-resistant tools, etc.

Moreover, China’s total annual demand for medium-high carbon alloy tool steel strip is around 2 million mt per year, with 60 percent supplied from abroad. Considering the prices of the given products are RMB 600/mt ($100/mt) higher than for common hot rolled products, production of the products is expected to boost WISCO’s profitability.
