According to a media report by Chinese news agency Xinhua, China will continue to cut its outdated coal and steel capacity this year, aiming to make its energy structure more efficient and greener, as announced by the National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC).

The NDRC said that China will speed up the overcapacity cuts and stimulate the green and innovative development of the steel sector, as well as pushing supply-side structural reform in the sector.

Inefficient output capacity and coal mines which are not adequate to environmental and safety regulations should be eliminated, according to the statement by the NDRC. It also noted that the total number of coal mines in China should be decreased to almost 5,000 and large-scale coal mines’ output should account for 96 percent of the total output in the country.
