Wire rod consumption in Mexico declines 1.3 percent in June

Wire rod apparent consumption in Mexico decreased 1.3 percent, year-over-year, in June to 236,000 metric tons (mt), the second consecutive annual drop and the fourth drop in the first half of the year, according to data from the Mexican Chamber of the Iron and Steel Industry (Canacero) reviewed by SteelOrbis.

Wire rod is the fifth most consumed steel finished product in Mexico and the same position in production, in June it decreased 12.0 percent, year-over-year, totaling 219,000 mt.

In the accumulated first six months of the year, consumption decreased 3.9 percent or 54,000 mt less, compared to the same period last year, totaling 1.34 million mt. Production decreased 15.5 percent to 1.31 million mt.
