Vale begins mining activities in Mozambique coal mine

Brazil-based Vale S.A., the world's largest iron-ore mining company, announced Sunday, May 8 that mining activities have begun at its metallurgical and thermal coal mining project in Moatize in the Tete province of Mozambique, ahead of operations at the processing plant. Production is set to start in July of this year.

Vale's Moatize mine will have a production capacity of 11 million tons annually of metallurgical and thermal coal. Investment in the mine totaled US$1.658 billion.
