Uzbekistan’s steel output rises in Jan-July

According to the State Statistics Department of Uzbekistan, in January-July 2009 Uzbekistan's only steel producer Uzmetkombinat increased its crude steel output by 10.8 percent to 449,700 metric tons compared to the same period last year.

During the period in question Uzmetkombinat's output of rolled steel products increased by 8.1 percent to 420,900 mt compared to the same period last year.

In 2008, Uzmetkombinat produced 674,300 mt of crude steel - up 4.5 percent year on year, and 643,100 mt of rolled steel products - up 3.8 percent compared to 2007.
