Both Usiminas and the company’s distribution arm, Solucoes Usiminas, were certified by John Deere to provide steel to the company’s entire chain in Brazil, Usiminas said this week. With the effective accreditation, 10 auto parts manufacturers that supply John Deere in Brazil will use Usiminas’ steel.

Ascanio Merrighi, executive director at Solucoes Usiminas, said Usiminas’ new way of doing business “reinvents the way by which agricultural products are made, generating opportunities for the small industries, for feedstock producers, and for manufacturers as well.”

“This is a work trend through chains that should soon involve the automotive industry,” the executive added.

As for Usiminas, the deal represents an important opportunity to help it secure a client like John Deere. Additionally, the supply of steel for the company’s chain could pave the way for Usiminas to supply John Deere at a global level.
