US Steel announced Thursday that it will lay off “white collar” workers at its Pittsburgh headquarters, although a specific number of workers impacted was not released.
"We continue to adjust our headcount to align with our operational and business needs," said
US Steel spokeswoman Sarah Cassella in a statement.
US Steel has issued nearly 10,000 Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification (WARN) Act notices this year, although not all employees issued the notices were actually laid off. The company also announced in August that it will permanently shutter its blast furnace and flat rolled operations at its Fairfield, Alabama facility, affecting 1,100 employees.
