US wire rod imports rise 30.8 percent in October

According to preliminary census data from the US Department of Commerce, US imports of wire rod totaled 122,952 mt in October 2017, up 30.8 percent from September but down 19.9 percent from October 2016 levels. By value, wire rod imports totaled $68.0 million in October 2017, compared to $54.0 million in the previous month and $73.3 million in the same month last year.

The US imported the most wire rod from Canada in October, with 35,602 mt, compared to 28,814 mt in September and 29,383 mt in October 2016. Other top sources of imported wire rod in October include Vietnam, with 12,032 mt; Brazil, with 11,332 mt; Japan, with 11,331 mt; Germany, with 10,851 mt; and Egypt, with 9,552 mt.
