US weekly raw steel production falls another 1.7 percent

The American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI) reported Tuesday that US raw steel production dropped 1.7 percent last week (ended December 31) compared to the previous week.

Total raw steel production in the United States amounted to 1,867,000 net tons (nt) last week, representing a 1.7 percent decline from the 1,900,000 nt produced in the previous week, and a 12.8 percent increase from the 1,655,000 nt produced in the same week last year.

The capacity utilization rate of US raw steelmaking facilities was 75.3 percent in the week ending December 31, compared to 76.7 in the previous week and 68.4 percent in the same week of last year.
