US weekly raw steel production drops 4.3 percent

The American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI) reported Monday that US raw steel production fell last week (ended October 22), with output decreasing 4.3 percent from the previous week. In the prior week (ended October 15), US raw steel production had increased 1.6 percent compared to the week before.

Total raw steel production in the United States amounted to 1,782,000 net tons (nt) last week, representing a 4.3 percent decrease from the 1,862,000 nt produced in the previous week, and a 9.4 percent increase from the 1,629,000 nt produced in the same week of last year.

The capacity utilization rate of US raw steelmaking facilities was 71.9 percent in the week ending October 22, compared to 75.1 percent in the previous week and 67.3 percent in the same week of last year.
