US steel mill shipments down 1 percent in July

The American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI) reported today that for the month of July 2018, US steel mills shipped 7,911,228 net tons, a 1.0 percent decrease from the 7,988,026 net tons shipped in the previous month, June 2018, and a 5.8 percent increase from the 7,480,241 net tons shipped in July 2017. 

Shipments year-to-date in 2018 are 55,215,285 net tons, a 4.3 percent increase vs. 2017 shipments of 52,939,327 net tons for seven months.

A comparison of July shipments to the previous month of June shows the following changes: cold rolled sheets, no change; hot rolled sheets, down 3 percent; and hot dipped galvanized sheets and strip, down 4 percent.
