The US Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) has fined North American steel giant US Steel Corporation and a subcontractor Power Piping Co. a total of $175,000 for safety violations found after an explosion at Clairton Coke Works in Pittsburgh injured 20 workers on July 14 last.

According to news sources, on January 14 the OSHA announced its decision to cite US Steel Corp. and Power Piping Co. following the relevant probe on the explosion, pointing out that the companies failed to provide effective energy control procedures and exposed workers to burns.

The OSHA cited US Steel for two "willful" violations and 11 other "serious" violations, fining it $143,500. Power Piping Co. was fined $31,500 for six serious violations.
