US rig counts continue to drop while Canadian drilling increases again

On Friday, Baker Hughes reported that for the week ending August 24, the US rig count fell by 16 to 1,898, reflecting a year-on-year decrease of 77 rigs. The rig count also fell by 17 a week ago. Rigs drilling for oil fell by 16 to 1,408 while rigs drilling for gas increased by two to 486.

Meanwhile, Canada's rig count increased by eight to 334, but Canadian rigs were still down 174 from the same week a year ago.
