Baker Hughes reported Friday that for the week ending August 2, the US rig count increased by six to 1,782, the fourth consecutive week of increases. The rig count was down 148 from 1,930 rigs during the same week a year ago. The oil rig count fell by 13 this past week, but was more than offset by the gas rig count, which increased by 19.

Canada's rig count rose by another 12 to 341 during the week, and was up 38 from 303 during the same week a year ago.
