US rebar imports surge up 49.4 percent in March

According to preliminary census data from the US Department of Commerce, US imports of rebar totaled 221,727 mt in March 2017, up 49.4 percent from February but down 0.2 percent from March 2016 levels. By value, rebar imports totaled $99.6 million in March 2017, compared to $71.4 million in the previous month and $72.9 million in the same month last year.
 
The US imported the most rebar from Turkey in March, with 186,728 mt, compared to 103,399 mt in February and 200,586 mt in March 2016. Other top sources of imported rebar in March include Portugal, with 14,544 mt; Vietnam, with 11,249 mt; Venezuela, with 3,981 mt; Dominican Republic, with 1,923 mt; and Canada, with 1,574 mt.
