US rebar imports surge up 214.7 percent in March

According to preliminary census data from the US Department of Commerce, US imports of rebar totaled 114,240 mt in March 2018, a surge upward of 214.7 percent from February but down 48.5 percent from March 2017 levels. By value, rebar imports totaled $65.8 million in March 2018, compared to $19.8 million in the previous month and $99.6 million in the same month last year.

The US imported the most rebar from Turkey in March, with 67,011 mt, compared to 18,116 mt in February and 186,728 mt in March 2017. Other top sources of imported rebar in March include Qatar, with 20,791 mt; Peru, with 15,262 mt; Mexico, with 5,817 mt; and Dominican Republic, with 4,923 mt.
