US rebar imports down 12.4 percent in September

According to preliminary census data from the US Department of Commerce, US imports of rebar totaled 70,125 mt in September 2019, down 12.4 percent from August but up 11.5 percent from September 2018 levels. By value, rebar imports totaled $36.4 million in September 2019, compared to $40.2 million in the previous month and $35.5 million in the same month last year.

The US imported the most rebar from Algeria in September, with 21,792 mt, compared to no tonnage in August or September 2018. Other top sources of imported rebar in September include Turkey, with 18,805 mt; Mexico, with 16,049 mt; Spain, with 7,781 mt; and Dominican Republic, with 3,641 mt.
