According to export data from the US Department of Commerce, US exports of rebar totaled 10,787 mt in December 2018, down 3.6 percent from November and down 60.8 percent from December 2017 levels. By value, rebar exports totaled $7.6 million in December, compared to $7.9 million in the previous month and $17.6 million in December 2017.
The US shipped the most rebar to Canada in December with 7,335 mt, compared to 8,657 mt in November and 38,339 mt in December 2017. Other top destinations included Dominican Republic, with 2,393 mt. There were no other significant destinations (1,000 mt or more) for US rebar exports in December.
As for the full-year 2018, US rebar exports totaled 292,109 mt, down 16.3 percent from 2017 totals. By value, rebar exports totaled $199.4 million in 2018, compared to $223.6 million in 2017.
