US iron ore output up 6.1 percent in September from August

US iron ore production in September this year amounted to 3.29 million mt, increasing by 6.1 percent compared to August and down 2.1 percent year on year, according to figures from the Mineral Industry Survey released by the US Geological Survey (USGS). Meanwhile, US iron ore export shipments in September this year totaled 3.95 million mt, decreasing by 7.5 percent compared to the previous month and up 0.2 percent compared to September 2015. 
 
In the first nine months of this year, US iron ore production totaled 29.3 million mt, falling by 10.7 percent compared to the January-September period of 2015, while US iron ore export shipments amounted to 29.3 million mt, decreasing by 3.7 percent year on year.
