US iron ore output down 19.7 percent in April from March

US iron ore production in April this year amounted to 3.91 million mt, decreasing by 19.7 percent compared to March and down 0.5 percent year on year, according to figures from the Mineral Industry Survey released by the US Geological Survey (USGS). Meanwhile, US iron ore shipments in April this year totaled 3.67 million mt, increasing by 437.3 percent compared to the previous month and up by 33.8 percent compared to April 2014. 
 
In the first four months of this year, US iron ore production totaled 16.9 million mt, compared to 15.7 million mt registered in the January-April period of 2014, while US iron ore shipments amounted to 7.08 million mt, decreasing by 0.7 percent year on year.
