US iron ore production in August this year amounted to 3.1 million mt, decreasing by 16.7 percent compared to July and up 9.1 percent year on year, according to figures from the Mineral Industry Survey released by the US Geological Survey (USGS). Meanwhile, US iron ore export shipments in August this year totaled 4.26 million mt, decreasing by 3.8 percent compared to the previous month and down by 6.2 percent compared to August 2015.
In the first eight months of this year, US iron ore production totaled 26 million mt, falling by 11.6 percent compared to the January-August period of 2015, while US iron ore export shipments amounted to 25.4 million mt, decreasing by 3.8 percent year on year.
