US inventories up 0.9 percent in September

The US Census Bureau announced Monday that the combined value of distributive trade sales and manufacturers' shipments for September was estimated at $1,101.0 billion, up 0.5 percent (±0.3 percent) from August 2010, and up 8.9 percent (±0.5 percent) from September 2009.

Manufacturers' and trade inventories were estimated at an end-of-month level of $1.4 billion, up 0.9 percent (±0.1 percent) from August 2010 and up 6.3 percent (±0.4 percent) from September 2009.

Sales from motor vehicle and parts dealers were up from 62.8 million in August, to 63.9 million September, an increase of 1.7 percent month-over-month, and an increase of 18.1 percent from September last year.

Sales from building materials, garden equipment, and supplies were up from 23.6 million in August to 23.9 million in September, an increase of 0.7 percent month-over-month, and an increase of 1.1 percent from September of last year.
