US HDG imports rise 17.4 percent in October

According to preliminary census data from the US Department of Commerce, US imports of HDG sheets and strip totaled 284,483 mt in October, up 17.4 percent from September and up 31.6 percent from October 2015 levels. By value, HDG imports totaled $227.9 million in October 2016, compared to $190.9 million in the previous month and $251.3 million in the same month last year.
 
The US imported the most HDG from Canada in October, with 75,022 mt, compared to 80,099 mt in September and 66,318 mt in October 2015. Other top sources of imported HDG in October include Taiwan, with 30,665 mt; Vietnam, with 30,663 mt; Brazil, with 29,910 mt; and Turkey, with 22,736 mt—a significant increase from monthly levels totaling around 9,000 mt or less in the last 12 months.
