US HDG imports drop 5.3 percent in February

According to preliminary census data from the US Department of Commerce, US imports of hot dipped galvanized sheets and strip totaled 190,623 mt in February 2018, down 5.3 percent from January and down 18.6 percent from February 2017 levels. By value, HDG imports totaled $180.4 million in February 2018, compared to $187.1 million in the previous month and $198.8 million in the same month last year.

The US imported the most HDG from Canada in February, with 71,474 mt, compared to 83,970 mt in January and 75,561 mt in February 2017. Other top sources of imported HDG in February include Russia, with 13,338 mt; Taiwan, with 12,384 mt; Korea, with 11,744 mt; South Africa, with 10,573 mt; and Netherlands, with 9,333 mt.
